It can be frustrating as a big man, especially an athletic big man that is looking for stylish clothes. You can’t walk into stores like Banana Republic (insert other popular clothing stores) and be able to find anything that fits besides socks and maybe sunglasses. Everything from finding a pair of jeans to shoes is more difficult and I was always right on the edge of being too big for the “stylish” stores, but too small for a lot of the “big and tall” stores. It amazes me that it is still this difficult to walk into a shoe store and find a size 14….we’re not talking about Shaquille O’Neal’s shoes, we’re talking about a 14 which is what many 9th and 10th graders wear right now but we just don’t have the selection.

It spills over into other areas of life, too. On most planes, the Exit Row is the only comfortable seat on the plane and you can’t imagine the frustration when you walk back to the exit row to see if taken by a few 5’ 6” frequent fliers that can’t even tough the floor with their feet when they sit down. Going to a spa and trying on their “one size fits all” robe and slippers can be an embarrassing experience when you have to take it back to the front desk and ask if they have any “XXL” robes that i can use. it’s everywhere and it amazes me that this is still an issue considering how much bigger human beings are compared to just 20 or 30 years ago. Being 6’4” is no longer considered a “giant” but it sure isn’t easy for that 6’4” person to find comfortable and stylish clothes much less relax in the middle seat of a plane.

Words From Todd Wike,  when he was a lineman weighing in at 307 lb and a height at 6’4.
